The Basic Methods Of DC Motor Control

Dec 18, 2023 Leave a message

DC motor is one of the most basic types of electric motors, and its speed and direction can be achieved by controlling the current. DC motors are often the main components of industrial control systems and are widely used in other fields.

The basic methods of DC motor control include the following:

1. Voltage control: Change the power supply voltage of the motor to change its speed and torque. This method is simple and easy to implement, but when the motor load changes, the motor speed will also change accordingly.

2. Current control: Changing the current of the motor to change the output torque of the motor, thereby controlling the speed of the motor. This method can maintain a stable output torque, but due to the parasitic inductance and resistance of the motor itself, a feedback loop is needed to control the motor current.

3. Pulse width modulation (PWM) control: By changing the duty cycle of the power supply voltage (i.e. the ratio of high and low voltage times in each cycle), the average voltage of the motor is changed, and the speed and torque of the motor are controlled accordingly.

4. Position control: By using a closed-loop feedback controller, measure the position of the motor shaft (such as an encoder) and feedback this information to the control system to control the speed and position of the motor. This method is suitable for applications such as robots and CNC machine tools that require precise position control.

In summary, different control methods are suitable for different application fields, and selecting the most suitable control method can improve efficiency, save energy, and extend the lifespan of the motor.
